"Mukh-O-Mukhosh" Print E-mail

Today is the 50th anniversary of making the film 'Mukh-O-Mukhosh' (which means 'The Face and the Mask'). directed by Abdul Jabbar Khan. It was the first full-length Bangla sound film or talking-film, released on 3 August 1956. The presentation style was theatrical. The film is remembrered for its historical importance.This film was the result of the Bengali language movement of 1952 which took martyrdom of several lives.

'Mukh-O-Mukhosh' was produced by Nuruzzaman, Shahidul Alam, Kalimullh, M. A. Hasan of lqbal Film, distributed by Mosharaf Hussain Chowdhury and M. A. Awal. Inam Ahmed and Purnima Sengupta acted in lead roles in this film. Director Abdul Jabbar Khan also played the second hero's role. Nazma (Peary), Zaharat Ara, Ali Mansur, Fafiq, Narul Anarn Khan, Saifuddin, Bilkis Bad & others were in the cast. O. M. Zaman cranked the camera while Samar Das scored the music.
